Website is up again. The problem was indeed Croft (and the database) being down with connections timing out after 30sec only. I've set it to 3sec, and returning a nice error message to the API caller. The API is now only a bit slower when croft is down. For now, take it easy on API request all of you 
As you can see, the API returns a connection error message right now; @johan is going to restart Croft later today (when he has access).
