sudo tcpdump -AUq port 1700 will display every packet sent through port 1700; so you can see the stat, rxpk and txpk scrolling by.

If you want to see/log packets on "RF" side, you can use this dedicated version of packet forwarder, is has extended login

You can see readme for more details

@mahe
do you have any descent power ? I mean RPI + IC880a + 3G Dongle is consuming, may be you could try with a really descent quality power such as 5V 2A (even 3A) just to test it's coming from 3G dongle and not from power.

@vannut

Thanks! That makes everything quite a bit easier.

I can see that the rxpk coming in now. When running on wifi the OTAA works flawlessly with a rxpk coming in and a txpk being send a few seconds later. But when running on my 3G dongle I can see the rxpk coming in, but no txpk is being sent back. My best guess is, that the latency/speed of internet is too slow for the gateway to negotiate with TTN and send back confirmation within the rx-slots.. Is that a realistic possibility?
When i "ping google.com" on wifi the time for receiving 64 bytes package is maybe 10-20 ms, but when on the dongle it's often 200-300 ms..

@Charles Thanks! I'll check that out at some point!

I am wondering if there is any scope in creating Things Network accredited training. This could bring a certain amount of money back to the foundation. The Things Network and community has created a great repository of knowledge around all matters to do with LoRaWAN and LPWAN and it might be a good way of utilising this. There would need to be a need to maintain quality and standardised resources - which ultimately might be too onerous - but it is an idea.

Hi Vannut,

As always it depends, InfluxDB is designed for 'time series' (metrics) on a large scale, performs really wel and can include 'Grafana' as a dashboard. InfluxDB downsample the data; keep the high precision raw data for only a limited time, and store the lower precision, summarized data for much longer or forever. I your application need the original data and not the summarized over time InfluxDB is not your solution.

If you need the exact data i would suggest Elasticsearch, it scales, its fast and have a beautiful dashboard grafana.

Can't advise you on Mongo or other No-SQL due to lack of experience..

Paul.

That also did not help, @mikey0000. I am sure now that the shield is broken. I am going to order another one, hoping that the next time everything is going to be working out.

It could also be that your telco incoming UDP traffic blocks.

Adafruit Lora Feather problems

Hi @Galagaking

Since DIO0 is already wired on the board to D3, RST is wired to D4 and NSS is wired to D8, I only hooked up DIO1 (to D6) and DIO2 (to D11). I've read in other threads that DIO2 is not stricktly necessary for LORA operation but I wired it up anyway, just in case. So my pin settings are:

const lmic_pinmap lmic_pins = {
.nss = 8,
.rxtx = LMIC_UNUSED_PIN,
.rst = 4,
.dio = {3, 6, 11},
};

@johnmiddleton, It's an interesting issue, but on the other hand, I don't use OTAA and I am not sending any data upstream to the mote, so I don't know if that timing issue on the rx window could be the problem on my device.

Hi @iot-partners, @johnmiddleton, The problem is that DIO1 is NOT connected to pin 6 on the board (according to the schematic of Adafruit). This bit is used to check 'ready for the next transmission'. So, only one transmission, and then it will stop. The text from Adafruit:
#8 - used as the radio CS (chip select) pin
#7 - used as the radio GPIO0 / IRQ (interrupt request) pin.
#4 - used as the radio Reset pin
Since these are not brought out there should be no risk of using them by accident!
There are also breakouts for 3 of the RFM's GPIO pins (IO1, IO2 and IO3). You probably wont need these for most uses of the Feather but they are available in case you need 'em!
So connect IO1 (DIO1) pin to pin 6. Do not use pin 11, not needed, so LMIC_UNUSED_PIN there.
Cheers

Hi Galagaking,

But that is exactly what I wrote: I wired up DIO1 to D6 ! :slight_smile:

So now I uncoupled IO2 - D11 and put LMIC_UNUSED_PIN in the pin connections instead of D11, but the result is still the same..... hanging after the first transmission

@Stekos, what version of the shield do you have? and what frequency? Also try with the RadioHead library, if that works then its not broken.

@Galagaking is it possible for you to post a link to your software used: sketch plus lib's?
