My point is not so much about whether the data ends up on the internet or not. Any protocol can add a bridge. But in those protocols where some local processing and command/response is needed then it is very critical that the nodes and data formats are compatible when they are integrated in a system and deployed. I'm saying that if the command/response decision making is in the cloud, then compatibility becomes far less important. Conversions can be managed "on-the-fly" in a central manner.
