@jmgurgeh, Correct.
Basically I want to put as many customers as possible on TTN (both their nodes and gateways). Customer gets more reliable service at a lower cost. With TTN, we need only to deploy one gateway for the customer location, relying on other TTN gateways to provide redundancy and for triangulation.
We could track our "karma ratio", that is, ratio of our contribution to the network (via third-party traffic on our gateways) versus our draw (in spectrum usage and third-party gateway usage). At least this way we can quantitatively demonstrate that we are contributing. Is that fair? Or is there still some negative sentiment...?
